In Climbers we follow a weekly lesson plan. We plan a theme for each week and incorporate activities associated with that theme. During circle time we read books, sings songs, learn about the days of the week and weather. We also plan art projects, some of which may be messy! We love to spend time outside and will occasionally do art projects outside. Another activity that we love is taking neighborhood walks. While on walks the children do hold on to a rope. While in Climbers we are helping the children to share, use their words and take turns. As in all of the classrooms we have a quiet spot. If a child needs to take a break or just wants some alone time they can go to the quiet spot. Another thing that we really work on in Climbers is potty training. We encourage each child to sit on the potty. If we work together, we can help your child become comfortable with the potty.
We do follow a more concrete schedule in Climbers. To help ease the morning transition, we ask that you establish a regular routine. Two year olds love routines so that they know what to expect. Breakfast ends promptly at 9:00. If your child would like to eat breakfast, please arrive by 8:45. We would appreciate it if you could arrive no later than 9:30. If you are running late, your child is sick or you are on vacation please let us know by calling us at 977-3322 ext. 32. We go on a lot of neighborhood walks. If you arrive while we are on a walk you will need to wait with your child for us to return to school. You’re not allowed to drop off your child while we on a walk.
Below is a list of items that your child will need in the Climbers:
· Two extra changes of clothes (to be changed each season), extra socks and shoes.
· A crib sized fitted sheet and blanket for your child’s mat. Your child may also want a stuffed animal to sleep with.
· A 180-count pack of wipes brought in at the first of each month.
· Diapers or pull-ups as needed. If your child wears pull-ups, we ask that you only bring in pull-ups with Velcro sides. Also, please bring in diaper ointment, especially if your child is prone to diaper rash.
· Please have your child wear only tennis shoes or other comfortable shoes as we play outside everyday and often take walks. Please no flip-flops.
· Please have sunscreen applied before arriving to school. We will re-apply after nap.
· Please label all extra clothes, sheets, blankets and jackets. WCCC is not responsible for lost or misplaced items.
· We are involved in messy art projects, therefore please DO NOT dress your child in anything that you don’t want to get dirty or stained.
· We do not wear bibs in Climbers, so your child will get messy during breakfast, lunch and snack. Please dress your child accordingly.
Climber Room Objectives
While I am in the Climber Room, I am learning:
¨ To sit on and use the potty instead of my diaper so that I can wear underwear.
¨ To use a fork and spoon to eat with instead of my fingers.
¨ To put on and take off my coat, shoes and other clothing with little or no help.
¨ To wash and dry my hands without help before meals and after I use the potty.
¨ To wait for my turn to play with toys, wash my hands, etc.
¨ To use my words to ask for more food, my turn, etc.
¨ To share toys (crayons, blocks, etc) with my friends.
¨ To take care of books and toys so that I can play with them longer.
¨ To pick up toys when I am finished playing with them.
¨ To clean my plate after meals and put it in the tub.
¨ To use scissors, pencils, crayons, paintbrushes, etc. to create art.
¨ To become comfortable playing with playdough, shaving cream, fingerpaint, etc.
¨ Songs, fingerplays and rhymes to sing.
¨ Walk up and down stairs without help by holding onto the railing.
¨ To stay with my class while on walks and on the playground.
¨ That only teachers and Mommies and Daddies open the classroom door and to stay safe I need to stay with a big person at all times.
¨ To express myself through music by dancing and clapping my hands.
