Crickets Classroom  (20 Children; ages 3 1/2 to 5)

Under Construction!!

 Welcome to the Crickets Room!!

Here is a little information about our classroom and our Kindergarten preparatory program and our hands-on project work program:

One of our main focuses in the Cricket Room is to prepare your child for Kindergarten.  To do this, we promote independence with the children, educational lesson plans, and social growth amongst their peers. We hope that we can all work together to make your child’s time in the Crickets room as fun and enriching as possible. We will be continuing the project-based curriculum that has been established at WCCC as well as adding some of our own ideas and activities to prepare the children for Kindergarten. Our teachers work collaboratively to plan and implement all lessons and themes. We execute weekly theme-based lesson plans that include fun activities, developmental challenges and educational enrichment. We rotate the responsibility of lesson planning weekly.

·        In the Crickets room we are working to develop your child’s independence. We encourage the children to “use their words” to solve problems before asking a teacher for help.

·        We also require families to be at WCCC by 9:30 daily.  It is important to be here on time because we have a very busy schedule during the day and would hate for your child to miss out on any educational information, and daily activities.

·        If you are going to be late or absent, please call us in the classroom

·        We also require that every child be potty-trained before coming to Crickets and that they are wearing underwear full-time.

·        We take monthly planned fieldtrips that are both fun and engaging, and we need the kids to be potty-trained in order to continue taking these trips. We also make frequent impromptu trips to McGuffy Park, the Madison Bowl, and the Gordon Avenue Library during the warm months. On these trips we will either walk, take the trolley, or the city bus.

·        The cost of our monthly fieldtrips should not exceed $10 per person. For some trips we will take the trolley/or city bus into downtown, but for others we will need to rely on parent volunteers to help drive. We do need parent chaperones for every planned field trip and we encourage all parents to participate. We try to give a months’ notice for all planned fieldtrips.

·        In addition to field trips, the Crickets engage in many large, hands-on projects throughout the year as a method of furthering comprehension. Most of these activities will take place in our building, but we may occasionally need your assistance with materials, etc. In the past we have always seen wonderful support from Cricket parents and we appreciate your willingness to support these exciting experiences.

What to Bring to the Crickets Classroom:

Ø  One full, weather-appropriate outfit in case of an accident (including socks and underwear). One extra pair of shoes and a bathing suit are optional but recommended.

Ø  One small  soft sleep toy that fits in your child’s cubby

Ø  One water bottle with a cap that closes

Ø  One fitted sheet and one blanket for naptime, which will be sent home weekly to be washed.  All items must be labeled with a permanent marker.

Ø  Sunscreen sprays not lotion, which should be applied at home in the mornings and will be reapplied by WCCC staff in the afternoons. All bottles should be labeled with a permanent marker

 Some General Guidelines:

Ø  Crickets will be expected to use their walking feet while entering the classroom each morning.

Ø  Please know that WCCC is not responsible for any lost or missing items

Ø  Parents must sign your child in and out every day on the Crickets clipboards.

Ø  Sleep toys should go directly into your child’s cubby upon arrival and should only be taken out at naptime.

Ø  We believe it’s best for your child to have a quick drop-off in the morning.  So in the Crickets Room, please make every effort to keep your goodbye routine with your child to just a few minutes.

Ø  Please put your child’s clothing, sleep toy and sheets in their cubbies when you arrive in the classroom in the morning. Sheets and blankets that do not fit in the cubby may hang in a bag on your child’s hook in the hallway. All coats and bags should hang neatly, and nothing should be on the floor in the hallway or in front of the cubby area.
